Prof. José Orlando Gomes, Ph.D., CPE

Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Graduate Program in Informatics, Prof. at the International PhD Program in Global Health, Occupational Health and International Cooperation on Mobile Populations and recently a Visiting Professor at the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He has degree in Production Engineering from the University of São Paulo, Master of Production Engineering/ Work Organization Area, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and PhD in Industrial Engineering, in Ergonomics domain, in the UFRJ (1999) in partnership with the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris. He was visiting researcher from 2002 to 2004 in the Cognitive Systems Engineering Lab (CSEL), coordinated by Prof. David Woods of the Institute for Ergonomics at The Ohio State University. Researcher of GRECO (Group of Research on Knowledge Engineering) and Certified Ergonomist Abergo (Brazilian Association of Ergonomics). Vice-President & Treasurer of International Ergonomics Association (IEA) (2015-2018  and 2018-2021), Chair of thee Professional Standards and Education Committee at IEA (2012-2015), Board Member of Resilience Engineering Association (2013-2015). President of Abergo (2009-2011) and (2012-2014), President of the Latin American Union Ergonomics (2010-2013). His activities include teaching, research and extension on human factors engineering and ergonomics, safety, cognitive engineering and resilience in complex systems such as emergency response, aviation, oil industry, and also authored dozens of publications in journals, books and conferences.
